A Federal Inlaid Serpentine Walnut Sideboard
Piedmont, North Carolina, Circa 1800
with two bottle drawers flanking single long drawer above shaped apron, the the sides and apron inlaid with circles containing rosettes, on tapered legs with inlaid swagged drapery, on squat spade feet.
Height 38 3/4 x width 71 1/4 x depth 24 7/8 inches.
Condition
refinished, but exhibiting a nice even surface throughout; the top with two replaced / patched wood sections along right-facing side, and to front of serpentine and left-facing front corner, the top with some plugged holes and some age cracks along edges; the back left-facing leg possibly replaced; the drawer interiors have been darkened or stained; the right-facing drawer with evidence of former dividers; the center drawer retaining dividers, missing lock, and with some veneer puckering to upper edge of drawer face; the top edge of left and right-facing drawers probably with replaced veneer; with some loss to line inlay to three leg stiles; the apron with with patch around medallion, and with some mended breaks and/or replaced elements to lower part of sides of apron, the right-facing side of apron also with loss to veneer; right-facing center leg with some scraping along edge; brasses are replaced, with an additional screw holes evident to both drawers; drawer faces with some age cracks, particularly to right-facing drawer; center drawer missing keyhole surround
